Twelve Hundred Bays, Six Aisles, Eleven Weeks

Inside our largest smart-compactor installation of the year — what the room looked like, what the engineering had to solve, and how the handover was signed off bay by bay.

The archive needed to move 4.6 linear kilometres of records out of a 1980s stack room and into a footprint that was 60% smaller. The layout our engineering team returned used twelve hundred motorised bays across six aisles, each bay carrying six double-sided shelf levels at 80 kg per shelf.

Control is handled by a touchscreen per aisle plus a host PC, with aisle safety provided by infrared and mechanical anti-crush protection that stops travel in under 0.2 seconds. Continuous travel times out after 13 seconds, so a bay cannot creep while an operator is standing inside the aisle.

Delivery ran in four container batches. Our engineers supervised installation remotely with the client’s electrical contractor and signed off bay by bay against GB/T 13667.4 before handover — eleven weeks from signed layout to installed, commissioned shelving.

The photograph is the finished hall: six working aisles, a single shared walking route, and a room that now holds roughly two and a half times what the old static stack could take.

Inside The Plant: A Walk Through Our 37,000 m² Industrial Park

From coil to container in six controlled stages — the Dongying floor where every Shengmei bay is built.Read The Brief

Our Dongying industrial park covers 37,000 m² and holds the whole chain: steel storage, laser cutting, CNC bending, welding jigs, the phosphating line, the powder coating booth and the curing oven.

Keeping coating in-house matters more than most buyers realise. It is where film thickness, adhesion and colour consistency are decided, and it is the first thing that suffers when a supplier subcontracts it.

Visitors are welcome by appointment, and we are happy to run a video walkthrough for overseas clients who cannot travel.

42 Containers Shipped To Nine Countries In One Quarter

Government archives, university libraries and hospital records rooms made up the quarter’s shipments.Read The Brief

Smart and manual lines shipped in roughly equal volume this quarter, with two-tone and pure-white finishes growing fastest as a share of total orders.

Every shipment went out with its certificate pack, packing list and bay-by-bay inspection sheet, pre-cured so the units inside could be loaded straight onto the floor.

If you are planning a container mix, tell us the destination port and we will work out the most economical bay breakdown.

Dense Shelving: How Mobile Bays Recover Up To 70% Of Floor Area

Static shelving reserves an access aisle for every bay you own. Mobile shelving gives that space back to storage.Read The Brief

A static stack layout spends roughly 40–50% of its floor on aisles that are empty most of the day. A mobile system shares one working aisle between a run of bays, so the same room ends up storing two to three times the volume.

On a 24 × 12 m room, that usually translates into somewhere between 55% and 70% more storage after the aisle plan is rebuilt around doors, columns and fire escape routes.

The gain is not free: the floor must be level, the load must be evaluated per square metre, and the drive system needs a maintenance plan. Our engineers check all three before quoting.

Manual Compactor Shelving: Five Signs It Is The Right Choice

Hand-wheel drive still dominates where power is unstable, budgets are tight and the archive is touched once a month.Read The Brief

1. Retrieval frequency is low. If staff access files less than a few times a day, a motor adds cost and maintenance without saving real time.

2. Power cannot be trusted. Outages, voltage spikes and remote sites all favour a mechanical drive that works with muscle, not electricity.

3. Budgets are capped. Manual bays strip out motors, controllers and cabling, cutting both purchase price and long-term service contracts.

4. The room is climate-challenged. Dust, humidity and temperature swings punish electronics first; a well-sealed hand-wheel bay keeps running.

5. Audit trails are not mandatory. When security is physical rather than digital, the simplicity of a key and hand-wheel is often enough.

Manual Or Smart Compactors? A Practical Decision Guide

The honest answer is rarely ‘always smart’. Five questions decide which drive type actually fits your archive.Read The Brief

Smart systems earn their cost when retrieval frequency is high, when audit trails are mandatory or when the room is uncomfortable to work in — long, cold or difficult to reach.

Manual systems win on long-term simplicity, in buildings with unreliable power, in strongly cost-constrained tenders and anywhere the shelving will sit untouched for years at a time.

Ask about retrieval per day, audit requirements, available power and floor loading. Then ask what happens if the drive fails: on a manual bay the answer is always ‘you crank it’.

Room Conditions For Long-Term Paper Records

Temperature, humidity, light and dust targets for paper storage — and the shelving finishes that support them.Read The Brief

Paper is happiest at 18–22 °C and 45–55% relative humidity. Stability matters more than the exact numbers: swings drive the ageing chemistry faster than a steady, slightly imperfect climate.

Light is the quiet damage. UV below 75 µW/lm and short exposure windows protect both records and powder-coated surfaces; our coating is tested for colour fastness accordingly.

Dust and the steel shelf are a partnership: sealed bottom plates and magnetic door seals on the shelving keep the climate zone clean between openings.

Trade Show Schedule: Where To Meet Our Engineers This Year

Cutting samples, a working star-wheel drive and the touchscreen controller running a live layout — on the stand.Read The Brief

We are taking cutting samples and a working drive unit to this year’s shows, along with the touchscreen controller running a live bay layout.

Bring a room plan or a photograph and our engineers will sketch a bay count on the stand — and you can feel the hand-wheel force for yourself on a loaded bay.

Appointments can be arranged in advance through the contact page, and we will hold a slot for you.

2026 Exhibition Calendar Confirmed: Four Cities, Three Continents

Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dubai and Jakarta — the full timetable is listed below in this issue.Read The Brief

The 2026 calendar is now confirmed with four stops across Asia and the Middle East, including our first appearance at Big 5 Construct in Dubai.

Each stop carries the same stand team, so the answers you get in Shanghai are the answers you would get in Dubai.

The full dates, venues and booth numbers are listed in the timetable section of this issue.

“A good archive room is quiet for thirty years. That is the product. Everything else — the steel, the paint, the software — is just how we get there.”
